What’s UP JAPAN! 8/4 ONAIR

Whats Up Japan 2019/08/04
Time for the Obon Festival Season when the spirits of your ancestors comes back from the other world to visit you. It is held on the 15th, 16th and 17th of August this year.
Here is a Wiki site. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bon_Festival
It’s time to go visit and clean your family graves. Your ancestors will also be coming to check in on you by visiting the family alters in your homes.
Traditionally most homes in Japan have a small alter, called a Butsudsan. Here is a link to Wiki’s Butsudan site.

Bon Odori. A dance to welcome the spirits.

Yukata is a light cotton kimono people wear during the summer months and is a great garment to participate in the Bon Odori.

 Nihongi Go Go.
This week our phrase is U-Turn Rush.
When the Japanese all go home to their ancestral lands for Obon, the roads coming back after Obon get terrible crowded.
So they call that traffic jam the U-Turn Rush.
