What’s UP JAPAN! 1/19 ONAIR

Good day people,
It’s already the middle of January.
Wow. Japan is still not quite in the dead of winter. It’s been quite cool but not cold.
Last week they had a national holiday called the “Seijinshiki”.
It is the coming of age day that is held on the second Monday of January.
The whole country gets a day off to celebrate young people turning into adults.
Any person that turned twenty in the past year gets to participate.
The city or town invites all residents that turned twenty to a ceremony during the day and the young adults get to party that night as adults.
They are now allowed to smoke, drink and gamble.
It used to be that they got the right to vote, but that age was changed to 18 a few years ago.
To attend these ceremonies, the young adults get dressed in formal wear.
Men in Kimonos or suits and the ladies in beautiful kimonos with fancy hairdos.
This is what it looks like.

WeBase encourages cultural exchange with those communities by promoting the original culture of all Japanese regions and the attractiveness of its communities to the world. We aim to create a real community that continuously makes young peoples’ worldwide travel fresh and exciting.
